Cacao (Theobroma cacao, meaning “food of the gods”) has been revered for thousands of years by the Maya, Aztec, and other Mesoamerican cultures.
It was associated with the heart, fertility, abundance, and as a bridge to the divine. Priests, healers, and community leaders would work with cacao during important rites of passage, prayer, and celebration.
Purpose of a Cacao Ceremony
A cacao ceremony is not just about drinking cacao—it’s a ritual to:
Open the heart space and connect more deeply with yourself and others.
Facilitate prayer, meditation, intention setting, or journeying.
Create a sense of community, gratitude, and presence.
Honor the spirit of cacao as a sacred plant teacher.
